LOCAL COVID-19 DEATH TOLL RISES TO 9 AS LOCAL CASES RISE
COVID-19 cases continue to rise locally with this weekend alone registering a record 110 cases of COVID-19 positive Batswana over a two-day period from the 4-6th of September. The country also recorded one more COVID-19 death taking the COVID-19 death toll to 9 with 537 active cases and 493 recoveries.
Making a rare televised appearance since his diagnosis with COVID-19 the Coordinator of the COVID-19 task force team, Dr Kereng Masupu shared that he had recovered fully and was among the 493 recovered cases.
Masupu added that the disease trajectory indicates that the disease risk area has shifted from the borders or outskirts of the country to the mainland, with Gaborone remaining the epicenter of the local outbreak as it has registered to the majority of the cases.
Dr. Masupu also urged Batswana to avoid unnecessary trips in order to curb the spread of the virus. He also cited that reinfection is possible for patients who have recovered.
