IDM launches Food Preparation Workshops

The Institute of Development Management (IDM) has unveiled a new product to the market. The Culinary Arts Cooking Workshops provide households and aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn basics of professional cooking as well as sharpen their skills in the kitchen.

The one day workshops, which are conducted by renowned IDM Culinary Arts Consultant Chef Thuto Masala who is also the President of Botswana Chefs Association have attracted people from different walks of life to up their skills and improve the meals they offer their families and clients alike.

“Training is designed for ordinary people wanting to learn the basics of preparing well-planned and carefully thought-through eateries for their families. The product, which is the latest in the Institute’s offering and is specially designed to create harmony and affection within families, also helps beginners to warm up to the kitchen,” explained Chef Masala.

He says they have special packages for gentlemen, ladies, house-helpers and even children. “We also give aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn the basics to establish a start-up or sharpen their skills”.

For her part, IDM Country Director, Dr Onalenna Seitio-Kgokgwe says the product was designed after the Institute conducted needs assessment and received positive feedback from people on the need to be capacitated.

“They told us that today’s family setting requires both men and women to have the knowledge to prepare meals for their loved ones. We also learnt that food is one of the important aspects unifying families, hence the need to make its preparation exciting,” she said.

The workshops include learning how-to:

  • Make Breakfast & Brunch (Separate sessions for gentlemen and ladies); entrepreneurs; corporate teams; individual groups etc

  • Make special Pasta meals; making Pasta out of flour

  • Bake different types of cake, baking for beginners; baking cup cakes

  • Making creative canapés (snacks/finger-foods)

  • Meat grilling, marinades, stocks & sauces, and many more
