GOVERNMENT EXPLORING VARIOUS AVENUES TO PROCURE COVID VACCINES
The presidential COVID-19 task force scientific advisor, Dr Mogomotsi Matshaba says the country is using the Covax facility and the Africa CDC platforms to procure other Covid-19 vaccines.
Dr Matshaba said this was a deliberate move as they cannot rely on one vaccine. This move helps in such setbacks as the current one where one vaccine offers minimal protection against the SA covid variant.
Dr Matshaba said all the vaccines that will come into the country will be assessed by local and international regulators to ensure that the vaccines are approved and are proven to work.
The health minister Dr Edwin Dikoloti stated in a recent update that the country had made payments for the procurement of covid-19 vaccines to the tune of approximately 10 million US dollars.
