DOCTORS REJECT ‘BAGAKA BA RONA’ COMPETITION AS DIVISIVE DURING A PANDEMIC THAT REQUIRES UNITY
Botswana Doctors Union has expressed concern at ‘The Presidential Covid-19 Taskforce And De Beers Group Bagaka Ba Rona Competition.’
A statement released today by the Secretary General of the Union Dr Charles Muyela says this initiative directly goes against most of the profession’s values and entices for unfair practices within the profession.
Muyela says the competition will instil feelings of jealousy at a critical time when there is a need to be united in the effort to combat the disease.
He added that each frontline worker on a daily basis is risking their own life and the lives of their families, adding that this competition suggests that some frontline workers are more important than others.
The task Force and Debeers competition calls for a random selection of a frontline worker who has delivered excellent service, and they stand to walk away with Forevermark diamonds.
