Calls made for change of guard at Home affairs and Police
The Foundation for Democratic Process -FODEP has suggested a strategic reshuffle of high ranking officials at both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Zambia Police command if Zambia is to hold a peaceful election.
FODEP Executive Director George Chimembe said the recently launched electoral security plan will be an academic exercise if the Zambia Police continues being unprofessional ahead of the August 12 polls.
Chimembe told Phoenix News that the electoral security plan must ensure the fair application of the public order act, equality before the law for both ruling and opposition political party cadres and respect for the rule of law.
He added that while it is commendable for the Zambia Police to have launched the plan, a peaceful election is not guaranteed unless constitutionalism and respect for the rule of law as enshrined in the bill.
