ATTORNEY GENERAL KEETSHABE CALLS ON BOTSWANA TO RETAIN DEATH PENALTY

Attorney General Abraham Keetshabe says Botswana should retain its unique originality, with regards to the death penalty and urged judicial officers to apply the law as it currently stands in Botswana.

Speaking today at the official opening of the 2021 Legal Year, Keetshabe said the death penalty is in the law and should be applied where it is deemed appropriate.

He said the judicial oath and the law places a judicial officer in the position of a trustee and in that regard members of the public are entitled to trust that in appropriate cases, a sentence of death will be passed without hesitation.
