AFRICA CDC TO SUPPORT ANY EFFORTS THAT MAY PROVE THAT TRADITIONAL MEDICINES CAN TREAT COVID-19
Africa CDC Director Dr John Nkengasong says they are supportive of any efforts that may prove that traditional medicines or remedies can treat covid-19.
Speaking at an online media briefing yesterday, Dr Nkengasong said the traditional medicines should however meet the standards which indicate safety, efficacy and standardization.
He said early last year they had a joint meeting with WHO, to launch a committee that is working on traditional medicines and remedies. He said should 3rd parties come forward with remedies that they believe have an impact on covid19, they will design a clinical trial and work with WHO to ensure that the study is carried out effectively.
Dr Nkengasong said should the results be positive, they will encourage people to use the remedies.
Dr Nkengasong further said they expect to vaccinate at least 60% of Africa's population in 2 years. Africa has recorded over 3.6million covid19 cases, with over 93 000 deaths.
